VREDENDAL: Lutzville Farmer, Martin Visser Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for the Murder of a Farm Worker

Lutzville farmer, Martin Visser has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a farmworker in Vredendal on the West Coast.

The sentencing of the 45 year-old, Visser, in the Cape High Court sitting at Vredendal was delayed earlier after Visser apparently tried to commit suicide. Visser murdered 32-year-old Adam Pieterse who worked on a neighbouring farm.

He was beaten with a spade, and dragged behind a quad bike. His body was buried in a shallow grave on Visser’s father’s smallholding.

EARLIER TODAY: Convicted murderer, 45-year-old West Coast farmer, Martin Visser who was due to be sentenced this afternoon for the killing of a farm worker has been rushed to hospital. Court officials would not divulge the nature of the incident but said he has been transported to hospital for observation.

Judge Nathan Erasmus was expected to hand down sentence at two-o’-clock this afternoon. Instead the matter has been postponed to three-o’-clock this afternoon for the court to reconvene and make a decision.
