Well how my day changed my life and that of a man named Jim…

I was driving with my friend Eleonora Del Grosso looking for new hiking spots, we turned off towards Kromdraai on the West rand when a kilometer down the road I heard someone cry out “help me” I looked out the window and saw a cyclist lying on the ground bleeding out, he had been robbed.

They had shot him twice, in the leg and in the back. I only had a rubber glove a towel and box tape to work with. I managed to stop the bleeding on his leg with the towel, stick my finger into his back wound and then saw blood coming out his stomach, the bullet went straight through.

All I had was tape and a broken glove and used that to stop the bleeding, holding pressure with my leg on his and applying pressure in his other bullet holes.

As people stopped they gave me more supplies like gauze and gloves. I managed to stabilize him and keep him alive until the ambulance arrived 20 min later.

While they were working on him I was plugging holes. He was eventually air lifted to Milpark where he is in a critical but stable condition.

I never thought I knew I could but I did…
Today I saved a mans life…
