R10 000 reward to ID Mitchells Plain traffic light vandals
Cape Town – A R10 000 reward is being offered to anyone who can identify protesters caught on camera vandalising traffic lights and digging up electrical cables during an illegal protest near Mitchells Plain last week. Residents destroyed the infrastructure during unrest at the Siqalo informal settlement last Wednesday, safety and security mayoral committee member JP Smith said on Thursday.
The group of about 50 shack dwellers also hurled stones at cars during their protest on Jakes Gerwel Drive, resulting in its closure between the R300 and Morgenster Road. A law enforcement vehicle was damaged, and there were major traffic disruptions.
Smith said the cost of repairs could run into hundreds of thousands of rands.Accidents Robberies Incidents News mitchells plain news R10000 Reward Offered
