Storms River – Humansdorp Cluster Commander has welcomed the eight year sentence imposed on a boy (17) who was convicted of rape and house breaking with intent to steal in the Storms River Regional Court today.
On Monday, 13 August 2018. Humansdorp Cluster Commander, Brigadier John Lebok welcomed the sentence imposed by the Storms River Regional Court on a 17-year-old boy for raping a 33-year-old woman in July last year. He was also sentenced for committing another offence (housebreaking with intent to steal) while out on bail. This sentence is going to serve as a strong message to the community that perpetrators of such heinous crimes are going be harshly punished irrespective of their ages, added Brigadier Lebok.
A 17-year-old boy pleaded guilty after forensic evidence linked him to the two incidents. For the first incident, the court heard that the accused entered the house of a 33-year-old woman and raped her on 22 July 2017 in Storms River. For the second incident, while the accused was out on bail, he broke into another house in Storms River, on 25 March this year, but the occupants disturbed him, and he managed to run away. The two charges were combined for sentencing purposes.
