On Saturday afternoon, the Black Eagle / IPSS Aeromedical helicopter was activated to Ulundi where a bus accident occurred on the road between Empangeni and Melmoth.
Sadly five people, 4 adults and a child, have sustained fatal injuries. Paramedics have treated 33 patients for injuries on the scene.
Six people were found with have sustained critical injuries, 12 patients with serious injuries and 15 patients who suffered only minor injuries.
One critically injured patient was airlifted to hospital by Mercy Wing 4 helicopter.
Some patients were transported from the scene before medics arrived. A total of 60 passengers were onboard the bus at the time of the accident.
