Job Purpose:

The Department of Social Development, Western Cape Government is looking for an individual to render high level administrative support in the Office of the Head of Department. The successful candidate will be performing complex administrative functions as well as leading a team to deliver on specific goals. The person appointed should be well acquainted with relevant legislation/ policies/ prescripts and procedures related to the Public Sector. This position is based in Cape Town.

Minimum Requirements:

• A 3 year National Diploma/ B-degree (as recognised by SAQA) in Public Administration; • A minimum of 5 years’ appropriate experience in rendering executive support function.

Key Performance Areas:

• Render line administrative support services;
• Execute research, analyse information and compile complex documents for the Head of Department; • Provide support to the Head of Department with regard to meetings, Ministerial enquiries, Standing Committee including Asset Management responses, Public Protection and Human Right Commission enquiries; • Manage resources in the Office of the Head of Department; • Remains up to date with regard to the applicable prescripts/ policies and procedures applicable to his/ her work terrain to ensure efficient and effective support to the manager.


• Knowledge of the following: o Relevant software packages; o Relevant legislation/ policies/ prescripts and procedures related to the Public Sector; • Communication (verbal and written) skills in at least two of the official languages of the Western Cape which includes presentation skills; • Research skills and Computer literacy; • Analytical thinking and problem,-solving skills; • Project management and financial management skills; • Managerial and conflict resolutions skills.

Remuneration: R 289 761 – R 341 313 per annum (Salary level 9).

Note on remuneration:
Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for certain occupation-specific dispensations (OSD), the middle-management service (MMS) and contract positions are inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations including basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc.

MMS remuneration packages are flexible and may be individually structured as prescribed.
Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, employees’ service benefits or obligations are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.
