Two men were killed and and two others critically injured this evening after a three vehicle collision on M1 Highway opposite the Southgate shopping centre in Mondeor, south of Johannesburg.
ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene and found the north side of the highway completely blocked by wrecked vehicles and debris. It is understood that one of the light motor vehicles had crashed over the barrier from the opposite direction, rolling into an oncoming taxi and light motor vehicle.
On inspection, paramedics discovered two lifeless bodies lying inside on of the light motor vehicles. Unfortuntely both men had already succumbed to their multiple fatal injuries. Nothing more could be done for the men and they were declared dead.
Two other men were found on the scene with critical injuries. One of the injured was the driver of a taxi and the other was the driver of the overturned bakkie. Paramedics treated the patients and provided them with numerous advanced life support interventions.
Both patients were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospitals for urgent treatment. The cause of the collision is not yet known but locl authoritis were on scene for further investigations.
