Seventeen children, believed to be between 9 and 15 years old, sustained minor injuries when a taxi they were travelling in collided with a tree on Springs Road in Daveyton earlier this evening.
At approximately 4.30pm paramedics from ER24 and other services arrived on the scene where they found all the children, including the driver of the taxi, sitting on a grass embankment near the taxi.
It is believed the children climbed out of the taxi shortly after the collision with the tree. They were all treated for minor scrapes and bruises before they were transported to Sunshine Hospital for further care.
The driver of the taxi was not injured. It is understood that the children were on their way home after taking part in a soccer match.
The exact cause for the incident is not yet known.
