Approximately 30 people were injured following a collision involving two taxis on Main Reef Road and Dobsonville Road in Roodepoort Sunday evening.
ER24 crews from Joburg North and West as well as various other services attended to the incident. Upon arrival, paramedics found patients lying and sitting around the taxis.
Among the several patients treated and transported to hospitals by ER24, was a four-year-old toddler and her mother. The toddler is believed to have been ejected from one of the taxis. She was in a critical condition. Her mother sustained minor injuries.
One of the taxi drivers was trapped in the vehicle. He was extricated by Fire and Rescue and found to have sustained serious injuries. Patients were treated and transported to various local hospitals including Leratong, Helen Joseph and Chris Hani Baragwanath.
The exact cause of the collision is unknown. Authorities were on scene for further investigations.
