It is understood that 32 people were injured Tuesday morning when three taxis collided at the Main Reef and Elias Motswaledi Road intersection in Roodepoort.
ER24 paramedics, along with various other services, arrived on the scene and found three taxis in the middle of the busy intersection. Patients that had been inside the taxi at the time of the collision were found walking around on the scene as well as seated on the grassy embankment.
Metro services had to close off the road and divert traffic due to the number of vehicles and patients on the scene. A triage area was set up as to allow paramedics to assess all the patients properly. It was discovered that 32 patients had been injured in the collision, their injuries ranging from minor to moderate.
Some of the patients were children, aged between 10 and 18, on their way to school. The patients were treated for their injuries and thereafter transported to various hospitals for further treatment. The exact cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
